- Prunus cerasus 'Montmorency'
Montmorency is one of the best pie cherries for the midwest, excellent for baking, preserves, and juice. Medium to large bright red fruit has a firm yellow flesh, and rich, tart, tangy flavor. This semi-dwarf tree will grow to about 15-18' tall, and is a pollinator for Bing Cherry trees. Harvest fruit in early to mid summer. Hardy to zones 4-7. Self-fertile, but will produce more and larger fruit if planted with a different cherry tree. Medical research shows phenomenal health benefits to Montmorency cherries, including reducing muscle inflammation, easing arthritis pain, improving heart health, and even helping regulate sleep. A wonderful choice for your home orchard!
