Spicebush, also called wild allspice, is a dioecious flowering shrub with tiny clusters of pale yellow blooms along the branches in early spring. Male plants feature showier blooms; if a male pollinator is nearby, female plants form drupes of bright red berries in the fall, attractive to birds. Swallowtail butterfly larvae feed on the aromatic foliage of either plant. May grow 6-12' tall and broad. Hardy to zones 4-9.
