Commonly called Bishop's Hat or Barrenwort, Rubrum is a Red Epimedium. Prefers rich, loose soil with average, even moisture and part shade, but very easy to grow in dry shade. Forms a clump 8-12" tall and broad. Blooms in spring with spurred yellow flowers edged in dark red. Crisp, heart-shaped, toothed leaves are medium to reddish green. This woodland perennial grows well under trees, and can be used in a shaded rock garden or border, as a ground cover, or massed in a natural habitat. Hardy to zones 5-9. Rabbit and deer tolerant.
